Menopause doesn't slow you down. Not knowing what's happening in your body does. Former UnScared coach Madelon van Zanten and her business partner Jill Thurman are coming to UnScared for a no-nonsense seminar on Strength & Menopause.
Every person with a uterus goes through menopause. That's biology. But the way most people talk about it, you'd think it's the beginning of the end. It's not. It's a shift, and if you understand what's shifting, you can train around it, through it, and come out stronger on the other side.
The seminar covers three things:
1) What's actually happening in your body
Hormonal changes affect muscle retention, bone density, recovery and how your body handles stress. We break down what that means in real terms, and what you can do about it.
2) Strength training in this phase
Spoiler: you don't train less. You train smarter. We cover how to program for this phase to protect muscle, support recovery, and keep your energy and mood more stable.
3)What to do starting tomorrow
Sleep, nutrition, stress, community. You leave with tools you can use at your next training session.
"But can I still do CrossFit?"
This important question of course will be tackled head-on. What changes in peri- and menopause, how to adjust intensity and recovery, and how to keep doing the training you love without running your body into the ground.
This is also for men.
If you train alongside women, coach them, or are in a relationship with someone going through this phase, understanding what's happening makes you a better training partner, a better coach, and honestly just a better person to be around. A more informed gym is a more supportive gym.
This seminar is not a medical consultation. It's practical, science-backed knowledge for anyone who wants to understand the body better and keep training well through every phase of life.
Hosted by former UnScared coach Madelon van Zanten and Jill Thurman, from Draagkracht in Scheveningen.
